Nigeria's Independence Day
Nigeria became a British protectorate in 1901. Colonization lasted until 1960, when an independence movement succeeded in gaining Nigeria its independence. Nigeria first became a republic in 1963. We are independent at 58 but not free until we: 1.Tell ourselves the truth all the time. 2.Refuse to be treated as objects but subjects 3. Refuse to be taken as electoral stock but national assets. 4. Counter the delusion of our emotions over reason. Let us felicitate in the joy of being a part of this year’s independence. Let us rejoice and be glad in the fact that we are alive to witness this historic day yet again! Today, 1st October, Nigeria celebrates her 58 years of independence.
